Introducing

BEDSIDE BALLERS

A fun way to involve the healthcare community while supporting stem cell transplant patients and their families

Play For A Purpose

Hospital staff and community teams come together for a fun, competitive kickball tournament built around something bigger than the score.

Support Patients & Families

Funds raised help support stem cell transplant patients and their families through the long game of treatment and recovery.

No One Plays Alone

Bedside Ballers brings athletes, caregivers, local businesses, and supporters together to remind patients they are not alone.

Origin Story

Bedside Ballers began as a friendly game of kickball being played against two sister units at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. The oncology department comprised of 9 East and 9 West had made plans to spend an afternoon participating in a day of casual, fun-filled competition. 9 East would be named "9 Beast" and 9 West would choose the name "Bedside Ballers" as suggested by their team captain. After many exciting innings, plenty of shared laughs, and some family-oriented trash talk, 9 West would go on to win 2 out of 3 games that day and be crowned as the victor. From there it was decided that both teams would attempt to participate in an annual event to extend the rivalry while also helping maintain the connections shared between the two units.

A New Look at Healthcare

With the development of the Bedside Ballers Kickball Classic we are aiming to bring together multiple units from throughout the hospital to play in support of those who may have a terminal diagnosis. We have the intention of raising funds to help stem cell transplant recipients and their families with much needed financial assistance. Transplant patients require many expensive medications & treatments that are not always covered by their personal insurances. These individuals are asked to spend weeks or even months in the hospital and they deserve to be honored for their willingness to participate and the bravery they display in the fight against cancer.

TURN TWO

In baseball, turning two takes timing, trust, and teamwork. For Bedside Ballers, it means something even bigger. When you donate to help fund the Bedside Ballers Kickball Classic, you are helping us turn one act of generosity into two meaningful impacts: bringing our community together through the game and supporting stem cell transplant patients and their families through the long game of treatment and recovery. Your donation helps make the event possible, but more importantly, it helps remind patients and families that they are not facing their hardest innings alone.
